K S HEGDE MEDICAL ACADEMY
Established in 1999, K.S. Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA) became a constituent Nitte University in 2009. The Institution is named after its founder, the visionary, Late Justice K S Hegde, former Justice of the Supreme Court of India and former Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
The Institution has made rapid progress towards being recognized as a medical school with high academic standards delivering quality health care with an emphasis on promoting social responsibility in its students. In keeping with the vision and mission of Nitte University, K.S Hegde Medical Academy strives to generate competent and humane professionals empowered to face future challenges with ethical integrity.
Academic programs
The Institution offers MBBS and MD/MS programs recognized by the Medical Council of India. It also offers B.Sc courses in Medical Imaging Technology and Operation Theatre Technology. Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital, the 1000 bed teaching hospital attached to the Institution provides all levels of holistic health care including major super-speciality services and provides excellent training opportunities to the students of the Academy.

Nitte University is one among the top 46 deemed universities of a total of 130 deemed universities in the country.
MBBS
Eligibility criteria for MBBS course
A pass in 12th standard or equivalent examination approved by the Nitte University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and English as one of the languages of study, with atleast 50% marks in aggregate of optional subjects.
The candidate should have completed 17 years of age as on December 31 of the year of admission.
Admission under NRI quota
The admission under the NRI category is based on merit in the qualifying examination taking into consideration, marks secured in the core subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Foreign nationals are also considered for admission under this quota.
Students seeking admission under the NRI category should submit a separate application to the college in the prescribed format, available at the University office, Mangalore or from the websitewww.nitte.edu.inalong with the attested photocopies of the following documents:
10th Std. marks card/pass certificate (for proof of date of birth)
10+2 marks card
Transfer certificate from the institution last attended
Passport and student visa
Passport and Employer”s certificate as proof of NRI status (if the candidate has studied in India)
A demand draft for Rs.1000/- towards registration fee favoring Nitte University, payable at Mangalore.
The payment of fee shall be from the Non Resident External (N.R.E) account of the parent.
Admission under General Merit category
The admission under the General merit category will be through the process of centralised single window counselling on the basis of merit(rank) obtained in the All India Entrance Test, NU UGET conducted by Nitte University.
As per the regulations of the statutory bodies, the minimum percentage of marks in the Entrance Test to be eligible for admission to the MBBS course shall be 50% for General Category candidates.

Duration: 5 ½ yrs (including one yr of compulsory rotatory internship)
Commencement of course
The course commences as per the date prescribed by the University, most likely during the first week of August. The exact date will be communicated by the Institution.

Eligibility criteria for M.D – M.S
The minimum qualification for admission to the postgraduate program is a MBBS degree or an equivalent degree recognized by the University and MCI.
The postgraduate programs namely, Doctor of Medicine (M.D) & Master of Surgery (M.S) are of 3 years duration andare offered in the following specialities:
