SMBT Institute is desired to be one of the best degree medical colleges in state which would maintain high academic, socio cultural and discipline standard. Admissions to First Year M.B.B.S.; a four year degree course recognized by Medical Council of India, New Delhi and affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik are made after 10+2 that is after XII Science and after successful passing in Entrance Exam.
The college offers four-year undergraduate course leading to Bachelor Medicine & Bachelor Surgeon (MBBS). Dr. Vidya P. Paranjape, Dean, is a well-known Paediatrician among the educational and professional organizations and takes keen interest in the development of infrastructure, faculties and students. DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY
The term human anatomy comprises a consideration of the various structures which make up the human organism. In a restricted sense it deals merely with the parts which form the fully developed individual and which can be rendered evident to the naked eye by various methods of dissection. The anatomy department at the SMBT Medical College & Hospital is very enthusiastic in facilitating medical education with a well equipped dissection hall. The teaching faculty is known for their student-friendly methods of teaching. Department has a progressive Museum exhibiting various types of anatomical and embryological specimens.

The department of Anatomy of SMBTIMS & RC is an approved department by MCI for MBBS. Presently the department imparts teaching and training programs in human anatomy to MBBS students.
The faculty members of the department have published 20 research papers in national and international journals. 25 research papers have been presented by the faculty at national and regional conferences.

DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY
Department of Biochemistry is primarily a preclinical department closely related to molecular biology which in fact is the study of molecular mechanisms by which genetic information encoded in human DNA results in the processes of life. This department encourages scientific thinking and spirit of being relentless in the 1st year students. This notion of ours helps build a foundation for developing students into ideal doctors.
Students are trained thoroughly through the aid of lectures, tutorials, seminars and visual learning aids (charts, illustrations etc) in order to ensure consummate learning on all levels. This is further bolstered by a departmental library that stocks all the relevant text and reference books for pathology, as well as practical training in well-equipped laboratories. This comprehensive department is ready to help/guide students and faculties in developing insight in biochemistry.

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOLOGY
Through the study of physiology, the students learn to recognize and explain the basic concepts that govern each organ and organ system and their integration to maintain homeostasis, as well as some clinical aspects of failure of these systems. The physiology department at the SMBT Medical College & Hospital nurtures scientific thinking and spirit of enquiry in the 1st year students. This lays a strong foundation for them to develop into model doctors.
Students are trained thoroughly through the aid of lectures, tutorials, seminars and audio-visual learning aids (charts, illustration, LCD, OHP, 35mm projector) in order to ensure consummate learning on all levels.
The departmental library and reading room is well equipped with 1st MBBS text books and reference books.
Practical training in the well equipped clinical, mammalian, amphibian and hematology laboratories ensures learning on cognitive and affective levels. Periodic theory, practical and viva examinations are conducted to rectify deficiencies and reinforce academic pursuit.
Research:
Neurophysiological implications of clapping, health and/or therapeutic benefits of rubbing of palate, Application of breathing techniques for reducing weight and the possible extent of reactive hyperacidity (and its implications) in response to antacid therapy; are some of the topics undertaken for research; by Dr. Shriniwas Kashalikar, Bhausaheb Jagdale, Sanjay Nehe, Kiran Avachar and Dr. Girish Karmarkar.
Distinctive Activities:
Through this department two books (HRUDGAT and NAMAVIJAY) are already published and (and three more are in offing), which are distributed free of cost; so as to help the students and faculty; in evolving their affective domain.
Future:
A good research laboratory is established and aids in furthering experiments and research.
The department is ready to help/guide students and faculties in developing insight in physiology.

Pathology is the study and diagnosis of disease through examination of organs, tissues, bodily fluids, and whole bodies (autopsies).
